Exeter Graduate Fellowship Scheme

Exeter Graduate Fellowship Scheme

University of Exeter, School of Psychology

The School of Psychology at the University of Exeter is looking to appoint 1 additional Graduate Fellow. The successful candidate will be expected to undertake a PhD, working in the large and vibrant postgraduate community in the School.

The School has a high reputation for its research, having obtained a rating of 5 in the last research assessment exercise, and for its teaching, scoring 23/24 in the QAA subject review. It is ESRC-recognised for "1+3" research training. It also has a strong position within the University, having been singled out as a growth area. The research of the School is organised in four overlapping research groups: Cognitive Psychology, Cognitive Science and Cognitive Neuroscience (convenor Prof. Stephen Monsell); Social, Economic & Organisational Psychology (convenor Prof. Alex Haslam); Clinical Psychology (convenor Dr Willem Kuyken); and Animal Behaviour (convenor Prof. Stephen Lea). This unique combination of research groups has created a very fertile research climate and there is a considerable amount of collaborative research between the members of different groups. The three research centres in the School, The Exeter Centre for Cognitive Neuroscience, the Centre for Clinical Neuropsychology and the Mood Disorders Centre co-ordinate some of these collaborative research activities.

The Graduate Fellow will start in October 2006 and the stipend will be £12,000 p.a. The successful student will be expected to participate in up to 180 hours of teaching-related duties per year. These duties will include getting involved in all aspects of undergraduate teaching, including leading small group tutorials, demonstrating, running the statistical helpdesk and marking, plus other roles as required throughout the year. The award will be made for 3 years initially, subject to satisfactory performance, but will be renewable thereafter for a further 12 months, thus providing 'guaranteed' financial support in the writing up year.
This position is available to a student who is intending to register for an MPhil/PhD in October 2006. Applicants are expected to have contacted a
potential supervisor prior to application (http://psynet.ex.ac.uk:8200/research/).

To apply for this position please send a CV and covering letter outlining your research interests to Prof Jolanda Jetten, Director of Postgraduate Studies (j.jetten@exeter.ac.uk). Closing date for applications is 1 August.
